Why Fiber Internet is Perfect for Remote Workers Explained

Fiber internet is one of the most reliable types of internet connections. It clears all problems that exist in cable and satellite internet: it is super stable, offers high and symmetrical internet speeds, and is just overall better for your remote working needs.

I have been a remote worker myself since the pandemic. Initially, it was a big struggle for me because I didn’t have this type of connection near my residence at that time. But in 2023, I moved to a new location where I had access to various fiber internet service in my locality, and honestly, it was a day and night difference. I didn’t struggle to share my screen or video during the call anymore, and it was just overall better for me.

It can be better for you, too, but you might need a bit of convincing. So here you go. In this post, I will be talking about why fiber internet is perfect for those working remotely. If that sounds good to you, let us get into it.

    High-Speed Internet

The first reason to get a fiber internet is its high-speed offering.

Other types of internet connections, like cable, DSL, or satellite internet, usually offer internet speeds from 20 Mbps – 500 Mbps. But that might not be enough, especially for the bigger households with a number of devices needing an internet connection. So, the ones who need the most (remote workers) end up having nothing instead.

That is exactly when you need a high-speed fiber internet that not only caters to your remote work needs, but also takes care of the rest of the devices at your home.

Having said that, fiber internet is capable of delivering internet speeds in gigabits. For example, Optimum is a fiber internet provider that offers internet speeds up to a whopping 8 Gbps. If you don’t need such high speeds, then you can always go with providers like Xfinity that offer speeds up to 2Gbps, which is going to be more than enough for large households.

The first thing is evaluating your online needs, and then shortlisting the providers and their plans based on those needs.

    Symmetrical Upload and Download Speeds

The next benefit, and the reason that might help convince you, is symmetrical upload and download speeds.

It is one of the greatest unique selling propositions of fiber internet, which is pretty helpful for remote workers. Let me explain why: when you are working remotely, you are actually consuming more of the upload speed than the download speed. Let me elaborate that too: when you are in a meeting and presenting your screen, at this very point, you actually rely more on the upload speed.

This is why you need as good an upload speed as the download speed. In such a situation, fiber internet takes the edge as it can offer symmetrical speed. In simple words, if you have subscribed to a 2Gbps plan, you get 2 Gigabits of download speed as well as the upload speed.

2 Gigabits of upload speed in real life means that you can video call in high-definition quality, upload heavy files in seconds, and make your remote work even simpler. It helps in so many other ways as well, even if someone is not a remote worker but loves to upload content on YouTube, Instagram, or more. They can save a lot of time by uploading their content quickly and saving time for the things that actually matter.

    Better Security and Reliability

This perk of fiber internet is going to be a huge one for remote workers.

The internet is a complicated thing, and while it is complicated, networks can be easily compromised if hackers know what to do. They can intercept your network, steal your credentials, or even directly get access to the sensitive organizational information. That is why keeping your network as safe as possible is fundamentally important.

Fiber internet is the type of internet connection that is the most difficult to hack or intercept. The main reason for this tight security is the fiber-optic cables. They are highly reliable and have physical levels of security within them that prevent hacking.

On top of all that, fiber internet is generally considered more reliable because of the same fiber-optic cables. Why? Traditional cables are susceptible to external conditions like the magnetic field formed around the electrical wires. This halts the efficiency of the network. On the flip side, fiber-optic cables are not prone to such external factors. In simple words, you will always have a good internet connection.

So, if you are in a position where you have to constantly deal with sensitive information, you should get a fiber internet connection.

For remote workers, fiber internet service is not a luxury, but rather a necessity! Fast and symmetrical internet speeds, on top of reliable security, they get it to experience it all.
